Natural Icon

Nature abounds with every day treasures! At Natural Icon Designs I make well made, handmade jewellery with a focus on semi precious gemstones, bone, amber, wood and freshwater pearls. I enjoy and take pride in creating every piece myself. Unless otherwise noted all pieces are one of a kind.

If you are interested in making your own treasures, I offer jewellery making classes taught in Calgary, including bead stringing, wire wrapping, making earrings, bracelets and necklaces. My fully equipped studio has a relaxed atmosphere with a low student to teacher ratio and classes are affordable with no pressure to over spend.

You will not only have fabulous accessories, but also enhanced confidence, self esteem, and the fun and joy of creativity!

Unlike classes at bead shops, you may bring beads you already have to a class. Supplies for one project are included in the price of the class so you don’t have to worry about keeping track of each bead that you are buying so the focus is totally on learning and designing.

My passion for rock collection is what I think led me to start making jewellery. I have been dragging home rocks and fossils and sticks and shells and bones and feathers and rusty what-nots and all sorts of stuff since I was tiny. Natural Icon Designs is a reflection of all that I hold dear. I love to hunt down and gather semi precious gemstones, carved bone beads, shells, freshwater pearls, amber lumps, and sparkly Swarovski crystals. Finding just the right pieces is half the fun. Sitting down and playing with my treasures is the best way to design and such a pleasure! The beautiful thing about gemstones is that each one has a history, a story and a meaning. I hope to make jewellery that is as meaningful to others as it is to me!

My Written in the Third Person Bio

Jennifer Park studied at the Alberta College of Art & Design from 1990-94 graduating with a diploma in Sculpture. She then turned her attention to the domestic arts (being young and very foolish) and in a collaborative effort came up with her finest creation, her son! Discovering she had no natural talent for domesticity she returned to ACAD in 2000 and received a BFA with a Ceramics major in 2001.

Jennifer began her very part time studio practice and much to her surprise decided to take up painting, jewellery making, photography and teaching. She has been teaching a variety of jewellery making techniques for the past seven years and has gone back to the Alberta College of Art & Design to teach Mixed Media Sculpture in the extended studies department. She recently created Natural Icon Designs a future, giant lifestyle brand for those who love rocks and sticks and shiny things and she currently belongs to the Burns Visual Arts Society where she has organized two successful workshop series for Alberta Culture Days. Jennifer shares her home studio with one big kid and four dogs and is still trying to master the domestic arts…with little success!
