Natural Icon

At Natural Icon Designs I make original mixed media paintings and handmade jewellery with a focus on semi precious gemstones, bone, amber, wood and freshwater pearls. I take pride in creating every piece in Calgary Alberta Canada. Unless otherwise noted all pieces are one of a kind.

My Niece navigating the Bow River in her flip flops. She reminds me of the freedom and sense of well being and connection you get from just being outside in nature.

My passion for rock collecting is what led me to start making jewellery. I have been dragging home rocks and fossils and sticks and shells and bones and feathers and rusty what-nots and all sorts of stuff since I was small. Natural Icon Designs is a reflection of all that I hold dear. I love to hunt down and gather gemstones, carved bone beads, shells, freshwater pearls, amber lumps, and sparkly Swarovski crystals. Finding just the right pieces is half the fun. My passion for mud pie making is what led me to sculpture and ceramics and the fact that most of my best friends were stuffed animals or cats up until college is why I have an affinity for animals and nature. Art and creativity is a way for me to extend my world of pretend and play into my adult life. I am currently spending most of my art making time creating mixed media pyrography paintings and have just started turning them into apparel and accessories, fine art prints, digital prints and wood prints. All the prints! I have found a Canadian company that makes high quality items that I really like. My subject matter is always from nature, often a forest friend or ocean traveler. I do try to blog, but it does not come naturally.
